Laughing Squid A Trendsetter Of The LOLz

Posted by admin on

Scott Beale of chuckling cephalopod fame and avowed breadpig ally, wrote a lovely piece on LOLmagnetz -- with pictures! In fact, Scott was the first person ever in the history of the world to document magnetic LOL poetry in the wild. Thus, he has a special place in the breadpig's heart.

He's evidently what online marketers would call a "tastemaker." As the next 24 hours revealed some lovely linklove and even a Tweet-out. Is that a word? (Think shoutout, but on Twitter).

But by far the most thorough LOLmagnetz reviewer was Heartless Doll's Bonnie Ruberg (I don't think you or your doll sound very heartless at all, Bonnie).

She writes:

While I love magnets and kitties as much as the next girl, I can't help but wonder if the whole LOL thing is beginning to jump the shark. It's like that really awesome song you can't get out of your head for a week, so you listen to it over and over. Then you hit a point, once you've heard it 73 times, that you realize you've totally gorged yourself and you don't want to hear it anymore. Ever. Well, at least for a couple months. But maybe that's just me...

On one hand, I agree with you. But on the other hand (the one with a cloven foot) I think we've only just begun to push the limits of this meme. It won't be long now until schoolchildren are coming home asking their parents with their LOLspeak class...

... that will be the day the English language has officially died.

And on that note, let me alert you to an upcoming episode of Internet Superstar that will be starring none other than LOLmagnetz. I'll link it here as soon as it goes online.
