Another check for the XKCD school!

We're happy to report that our friends at the Midlothian Friends Meeting have raised a total of $1187.85 for the XKCD school in Laos! Part of this came from the pancake breakfast organized by the younger Friends, but the bulk came from sales at the Thrifty Quaker, their thrift store on the outskirts of Richmond. The money will go towards sustaining the library, staff training for the librarians, and purchasing new books. We're so grateful that the Midlothian Friends chose the XKCD school as their charity of the month. Keep up the great work!

Reasons to self-publish, or start your own niche publishing company (or not)

Like any good uncorporation, breadpig aims to do things a bit differently. Last year, we published a tutorial for how LOLMagnetz generated $30,000 in profits (for charity, but profits nonetheless). We donated $15,000 to the SF/SPCA that December of '08 and the rest went back into Breadpig, Inc. to purchase more inventory and fund our next project, the xkcd book, xkcd: volume 0.
