Great Timing For ROFLaptop
Posted by admin on
The former security director of the One Laptop Per Child non-profit has blasted the project for losing sight of its goals, accusing chairman Nicholas Negroponte of deceiving the public. It's all about shipping kit, says Ivan Krstić in an incendiary essay. Excerpted from the register Though, you ought to read Krstić's original essay here as well. Ivan and I are chummy from back in my Cambridge/Somerville days, so I heard the synopsis of his essay right from his mouth at an event a couple months ago. Nonetheless, I felt compelled to keep my word to acquaintances still at the project...

Just in case you didn't believe me about getting the Firefox's signature... Adam from LOLCode generously spread the word about the ROFLaptop. Maybe if this auction is big enough, we can convince OLPC to stop shipping with Windows...
XO-ROFLaptop Is Listed On eBay - Rally The Geeks

The eBay auction expires on May 23rd and 100% of the sale price will go to OLPC. This couldn't have been done without the help of the fantastic hosts of ROFLCon, a collection of great Internet meme-creators who were happy to smear some Sharpie for this project, and of course, breadpig's friends at OLPC. Thanks to Michael Galpert of Aviary for taking the video. And if you're not a fan of moving pictures, here's a good pic captured by tiredofh20. I'll try my best to divine the names from these signatures and get them appropriately tagged before putting up the eBay auction. Thanks again to all of my fellow ROFLCon speakers who were kind enough to lend their handwriting and support.
One ROFLaptop Per Child

I had this XO Laptop sitting around that I got from the Give One, Get One campaign of last year. My hands are too ogreish to use such a child-sized laptop, so I thought there must be a better use for it. I've brought it with me to ROFLCon and asked all of my fellow speakers to autograph this lovely geek toy. I'll be auctioning it on eBay in another week or so and all the proceeds will go right back to OLPC.
